KUNA was founded according to an Amiri Decree in 1979 in an aim to gather and generate new for distribution to individuals and media institutions in an objective manner and with a focus on Kuwait’s updates regionally and internationally. KUNA began transmitting in English in 1980.

KUNA is the official news agency of Kuwait, publishing in Arabic, English and French.  

KUNA was founded according to an Amiri Decree in 1979 in an aim to gather and generate new for distribution to individuals and media institutions in an objective manner and with a focus on Kuwait’s updates regionally and internationally. KUNA began transmitting in English in 1980.  

During the Iraqi Invasion in Kuwait, KUNA's equipment and archives were seized. Despite it, the agency was still able to operate and reorganize by relocating its main office to London and resumed transmission on October 13, 1990.
